Food in Foley A to Z
Foley is home to hundreds of restaurants and sometimes it’s hard to narrow it down. One way to do it is to eat your way through the alphabet. Work your way A to Z or start with the first letter of your name or even try to eat your initials in one day!
Acai Bowls
Perfect in the hot summers acai bowls are a healthy way to fill up. You can pick one up at a familiar name like Smoothie King or head downtown to enjoy some healthy refreshment at a local staple called Soul Bowlz.
Burgers
Foley has not shortage of burger joints and no shortage of people willing to defend their favorites. Whether you want to stick with a familiar chain like Five Guys, a regional chain that moved south like Culver’s, or a funky local spot with a devoted internet following like Cheeseburger Randy’s, the perfect burger for your taste buds awaits you here in Foley.
Coffee
Some people just can’t face the day without a cup of coffee, but whether you’re a latte person, cold brew connoisseur, or just an ol’ cup of joe type, you’re covered. The familiar Starbucks and growingly familiar 7Brew are always busy but always fast. If you’re looking for something local, maybe to sit and sip, check out Coastlands Coffee.
Donuts
No matter if you’re an early riser or a repeated snooze button hitter, there’s nothing like a still warm donut to start the day. Krispy Kreme has their famous glazed and a selection of flavors that will give you that perfect sugar kick. Lickin’ Good Donuts is a South Baldwin County chain known for its maple bacon donuts, but forewarning you won’t be able to eat just one!
Eggs
Now if you prefer starting the day on a savory note rather than a sweet one, there are plenty of places to get those incredible edible breakfast staples. You can have it sandwiched deliciously into the heart of a fresh made bagel at Bagel Boy. You can get a fresh omelet or classic breakfast spread at Foley Brunch and Supper Club. Grab eggs atop fresh fluffy waffles at Waffles R Wild. Or sit a spell and enjoy your eggs soul-food style with a breakfast casserole at The Gathering Place. There’s plenty of egg-cellent options all over town.
Fish
You can’t talk about food on the Gulf Coast without mentioning fish. Wolf Bay Lodge brings a homey feel with tons of options from flounder to grouper to mahi mahi. You can also jam out while eating some off the wall rolls at Rock N Roll Sushi. Head to Poke Bowl Sushi Burritos and Boba if you want to mix it all up into a bowl or walk with it in a burrito. You can even fill up on fish at an all-you-can-eat fried white fish night at Shrimp Basket.
Guacamole
We’re pretty sure everything in life is better with guacamole. There are tons of places in Foley to grab some guac, but if you’re looking for something deliciously authentic stop by Mi Pueblito Cocina Mexicana or La Casita Fresh Mex Grill. Both offer a guacamole dip or the chance to upgrade your app to the Mexican Guacamole.
Ham
Ham may just be the perfect protein because it fits any meal, any time of the day. Check out Southern Shore Eats & Drinks for the ham breakfast panini and then stay until the connected Scallywags opens and stuff some ham into a meat lovers or a classic Hawaiian deep dish pizza. Head to Honey Baked Ham for a delicious ham sandwich or feed the whole team with a bone-in ham and a plethora of heat and serve sides.
Ice Cream
It gets hot in South Alabama and sometimes the best way to cool off is from the inside out with a little ice cream. You can experience delicious ice cream in a historic setting at Stacey’s Olde Tyme Soda Fountain downtown. You can stroll through the streets of OWA with a cone piled high from Hershey’s Ice Cream Parlor. Or head to La Michoacana Frutiland for delicious favor combinations in a selfie-worthy atmosphere.
Jalapenos
If you’re looking to spice things up Foley has you covered. You can head to Ichiban Japanese Steak House has an appetizer that brings the heat in their creamy jalapeno- a jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese and spicy tuna and drizzled with spicy mayo and eel sauce. Stop by Mamma Mia’s downtown and pair a pie with some classic jalapeno poppers. Or unwind at Novel Rose and dip some flavor packed jalapeno chips with some jalapeno Wisconsin cheese spread.
Kale
When you’re ready to nourish your body with a healthier option head to Agape Juices and pick up a kale treat in cold press juice or a smoothie. You can pick up fresh Fleurish Farms grown kale at Feast and Co. or check out their rotating options of salads and entrees that often feature it as an ingredient.
Lemon
Is there anything more refreshing than the zing of lemon? It can be sweet without overbearing. For those who love a little tang in their treats, head to Smallcakes for their signature Lemon Drop cupcake. Looking to cool down on a hot summer day? Southern staple Chick-Fil-A offers frozen lemonade. If you’re looking for something decadent check out the Limoncello Dream cake at Portabella’s.
Mushrooms
Mushrooms may be one of the most polarizing foods out there. But for those that love them there are plenty of ways to enjoy them in Foley. Bier Shack Taproom offers Jager Schnitzel, a German classic grilled and breaded pork loin covered in mushroom gravy. Rather have your mushroom gravy on beef? Hattie’s Soul Food has a drool-worthy Salisbury steak. If you’re not feeling like a ride on the gravy train head to Brick Oven and order up a Chicken Alfredo pizza featuring tons of mushrooms.
Nachos
Everything tastes better with cheese on it, especially tortilla chips, so nachos are always a team pleaser. Groovy Goat makes them your way as you give the directions from your seat with their tableside nachos. Looking to add a different twist to your nachos? Head to Cactus Cantina for seafood nachos with shrimp crab and fish. El Paso offers all your favorite options like steak, chicken, ground beef, bean, cheese, shrimp or pork.
Oysters
Oh boy does this city offer some fabulous oyster options. Captain’s Choice has them fresh on the half shell or baked Rockefeller style. Chick N Sea has dinner plates that offer oysters on their own or in combination with other seafood and two of their delicious sides. Fish River Grill will make you up an oyster po’boy that will have you coming back for more.
Pulled Pork
There is nothing like the smoky tender flavor of perfectly prepared pulled pork. Moe’s BBQ does it low and slow as a sandwich or a platter. Try that sandwich Bama style which boasts unique Alabama white BBQ sauce, classic red BBQ sauce, slaw, and pickles. Jim ‘N Nick’s will take theirs and put it on a loaded baked potato or if you’re feeling “healthy” a BBQ salad.
Quiche
Quiche is a brunch staple so sleep in and grab yourself a slice. Gypsy Queen Java has got classics like Quiche Lorraine on a pie crust or something new to try like the sausage cheddar with hashbrown crust. Drowsy Poet offers a three cheese quiche or a double triple which packs white, sharp, and mild cheddar cheese with sausage, ham, AND bacon.
Rolls
While most people term rolls as a side, some Foley restaurants know they can be the star of the meal. Texas Roadhouse makes sure everyone gets those still-warm rolls with their signature honey cinnamon butter. But watch out you may not have room for your meal after inhaling them! Lambert’s Café is the “Home of Throwed Rolls” where you can enjoy a meal and when you’re ready for an extra-large, super-soft roll just put your hands up and they’ll toss you one.
Sandwiches
We aren’t full of baloney when we say sandwiches can be an art form! Foley has all your favorite chains including Firehouse Subs, Jimmy John’s, and Jersey Mike’s. But there’s also some local options like the made-fresh Elberta Sandwich Company that is heavy on the flavor and the Southern charm. Jon Smith Subs is a small national chain new to the area but boasts some unique flavors like a grilled kielbasa sub or a maple bacon chicken sub.
Tacos
Tacos are everywhere. There are BBQ tacos, seafood tacos- like burgers and nachos everyone’s trying their hand at them. But there are some doing them a step above. Cozumel offers so many types including birria, asada, pastor, chicken, carnitas, lengua, and chorizo that you will have to make more than one trip to try them all. If you’re looking for something deliciously authentic head to Taco Fiesta where they serve up Mexican street food style tacos fast. At Macho Taco Bar they offer eleven different types of tacos, any of which can be done in three different styles so there’s something for everyone.
Unique Atmosphere
Everyone knows that dining out is more than a meal, it’s an experience. Stepping into the Copper Kettle Tea Bar takes you out of downtown Foley and into a cozy cottage that is the perfect spot to catch up with friends to get the tea while sipping the tea and munching scones. The Hotel Magnolia was built in 1908 and is home to a restaurant that has a historic atmosphere with a rotating menu of steaks, fresh seafood, and decadent desserts.
Vegan
Foley also offers vegan options so there is something delicious in store for any kind of diet. Sunflower Crepes and Poke Bowls lets you customize your meal to load up on veggies, tofu and other toppings on a bed of salad greens or rice. For a high-end atmosphere go to Local and Company and snag the vegan potstickers with a range of quinoa bowls. What you may not know is pizza chain Mellow Mushroom offers an entire vegan menu so if you’re feeding a team pizza is sure to please everyone.
Wings
Sometimes you just want to get a bit messy and enjoy some wings. Baumhower’s Victory Grill has those fresh, never frozen wings in both traditional and boneless options. Have either in one of their many sauce options whether you’re looking to add some spice or just enjoy the flavor. Xtreme Eats
This section is not for the faint of heart or small of stomach. Foley is home to some eating challenges which will push even the hungriest of eaters. Try conquering the Wackinator at Wacked Out Weiner. Give the restaurant 24 hours notice and then try to eat eight hot dogs in a fresh-baked bread loaf, with mac and cheese, chili, baked beans and more toppings. You’ve got a 30 minute time limit to get this behemoth on the house. Still hungry? Mugshots Grill and Bar is home to the Mugshot- three burger patties, six strips of bacon, toppings, fries, and an onion ring… oh yeah and don’t forget the pickle. Eat it in 12 minutes or less for a free meal and shirt.
Yogurt
Frozen yogurt is like healthy ice cream right? Counter Culture offers their signature Humphrey Yogart. Pile on the fresh fruit, honey and granola for something that you won’t feel too guilty about. If you’re looking for something more along the lines of guilty pleasure, head to Peachwave. You can make yogurt decidedly less healthy by adding your choice of toppings from whipped cream to candy to sweet sauces.
Zucchini
Zucchini is magical vegetable that can be prepared in a range of tasty ways. Stop by Gelato Joe’s and have them cook up their Zucchini Sticks that have you thinking that since you eat all your veggies you can definitely order extra dessert. First Watch lets you much on zucchini first thing with a Market Hash, or a Market Veggie sandwich.
