Valet 100 Speeds into Foley

Foley Sports Tourism (FST) is excited to welcome in a new and innovative event with the Valet 100, taking place April 11 – 12.

The Valet 100, hosted by the Parking Attendant Racing Coalition (PARC), allows for seasoned and amateur valets to compete on how quickly they can park cars and return to the valet stand. They are judged not only on speed but also on any bumps dings or full on crashes they might encounter along the way.

City of Foley Leisure Services Executive Director David Thompson said the event offers a new way to add to an already busy calendar.

“FST is blessed to have a packed calendar at all of our facilities,” Thompson said. “But we don’t want to permit ourselves to stall out. We’re always looking to grow. When PARC approached us with the Valet 100 it was a perfect fit because it could not only squeeze itself into weekends when we already have events, but also provide a service to the visitors of those events.”

The Valet 100 will take place in tandem with the Battle by the Bay volleyball tournament at the Foley Event Center and the Coastal Soccer Invitational at the FST Fields, both expecting to bring hundreds of visitors.

PARC President Ann Genn said the busy FST schedule makes the competition for the Valet 100 serious now, but there’s also room to grow the event down the road.

“The Valet 100 won’t be taking a backseat to the events already on the docket, rather it works with them,” Genn explained. “The busier the lot the more skilled a competitor needs to be to win the Golden Keys and hundreds in prize money. This year we felt the crowd would be enough for a great event, however we’re already looking towards the future. Eventually we want to introduce even more obstacles a parking attendant could face on any given day- old ladies crossing the road, runaway strollers, etc. Foley really is the perfect spot for the Valet 100.”

To keep everyone safe, FST and PARC have put together a traffic flow that they feel allows for all events to run smoothly. Those attending the Battle By the Bay can self-park in the north lot of the Foley Event Center or pull up front to allow their car to be valeted in the competition. All cars in the Valet 100 will be parked in the south lot to prevent any possible pedestrian collisions. Those attending the Coastal Soccer Invitational will self-park in the dirt lot while those wishing to valet will pull into the drop off zone and their vehicles will be parked in the paved lot near the FST Championship Stadium.

“We know this can be a great addition to the FST lineup,” Thompson said. “But our goal is safety. We want events to be economically impactful not just impactful.”

Everyone at both sites who choose to valet their automobiles in the Valet 100 will be required to sign a hold harmless waiver, provide their driver’s license, registration and insurance, possibly their first born, and contribute $50 to the Valet 100 prize money.
