Volleyball will return to the Foley Event Center this weekend with more than 60 teams for the second tournament of 2018. This week the Lower Alabama Volleyball Invitational comes to town January 20 – 21.
Tournament Director Kate Wood said the event gives an opportunity for a number of different age groups to compete. Saturday and Sunday, 12U – 14U age groups will take to the courts from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday will also feature younger players with the 8U – 10U divisions competing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Wood said she encourages the public to come check out the competition and the new facility, which is the reason they chose to host the Invitational in Foley.
“The Event Center is beautiful,” Wood said. “That alone is worth coming in to see what’s going on inside!”
Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism David Thompson said he was excited about how the facility is progressing. Back to back volleyball events give the staff a chance to get into a groove and really focus on what works.
“We held our first event in the Foley Event Center in September,” Thompson said. “A few short months later we’re really finding our rhythm. Each event we get stronger. Stronger events mean happier event managers that look to come back to Foley again and again.”
The Foley Event Center will continue to strengthen with an indoor soccer tournament and more volleyball on the docket for the coming weeks. This week, however, will be all about the Lower Alabama Volleyball Invitational. For more information on it or any Foley Sports Tourism event, check out our events page.
