Volleyball Rides Wavefest Into Foley

One of the region’s longest-running volleyball tournaments comes to the Foley Event Center this weekend. The West Florida Waves Volleyball Club will be hosting their annual Wavefest March 6 – 7.

For close to a quarter of a century the West Florida Waves have been hosting Wavefest and its reputation for quality competition has helped it grow into one of the premier events on the USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region’s calendar. Tournament Director Jeffrey Schmitt said they are expecting         109 teams to participate this year. He said neither the competition nor the club’s commitment to safety will be wavering.

“We’re using only eight of the Foley Event Center courts,” Schmitt said. “We are staggering start times and using three-team pools so teams are only in the building for three hours.”

While the event will be utilizing other courts in the area to accommodate all their teams, the Foley Event Center is the main site because it offers the most courts under one roof and is committed to the safety of everyone who walks through its doors.

“COVID-19 brought some unprecedented challenges for sure,” said Foley Sports Tourism Event Operations Manager Angie Sullivan. “But we are still able to help clubs like the West Florida Waves do more than just hold their tournaments, we can help them grow. Wavefest has a storied history and we want to make sure that it continues to write that history for years to come.”

Wavefest will run all day March 6 and 7. For more information on this or any FST event visit our events page.
