USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region is gearing up for a massive year with Foley Sports Tourism (FST). The group has eleven events scheduled through spring of 2019, and are kicking things off with the Friendship Tournament on December 8.
Storm Volleyball is inviting teams to the Foley Event Center for a scrimmage day to offer teams the chance to gel before the new season gets into full swing. Tournament Director Shawn Weaver said approximately 40 teams from Mobile, Pensacola, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, and Milton are expected to participate.
With new teams expected to compete, the tournament will provide an opportunity for players to familiarize themselves with playing at the Foley Event Center before the 2019 season. Currently, there are events scheduled for every weekend January through mid-April. Including ten volleyball tournaments.
Weaver said they book as much as they can at FST because it’s such a unique venue.
“Foley provides a venue that gives the athletes a chance to compete with multiple teams on a high level of play,” Weaver said.
Foley Event Center Building Maintenance Manager, Jeff Ryan, said FST always looks for ways to improve the volleyball experience for players and spectators.
“We’ve done a number of volleyball tournaments here in the last year,” said Ryan “But we never want to get complacent. We are constantly talking with tournament directors and coaches to see where we can improve. We want to provide the best experience for everyone involved.”
The Friendship Tournament is open to the public. There will be a $5 entry fee for ages 10 and up. Games will run from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on December 8.
