Foley Sports Tourism (FST) is wrapping up the month of March with a volleyball “battle.” Girls’ club teams will compete for supremacy at the Battle of the Bay, March 30 – 31, at the Foley Event Center.
The tournament has been held for the last 20 years and has continued to expand each year. Tournament Director, Patsy Burke, explains that interest in the tournament format is the reason for the continued growth.
“[The tournament will host] ages 11-14 on Saturday, and 15-18, with a grassroots group, on Sunday,” said Burke. “The one-day format seems to appeal to clubs.”
Approximately 90 teams are expected to travel from around the USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region (which include Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama) to participate.
FST Event Operations Manager, Angela Sullivan, said the Battle of the Bay tournament is an opportunity to introduce repeat visitors to new things in Foley.
“We have a number of USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region events on the calendar throughout the year,” Sullivan said. “A number of these teams have visited Foley before. Our goal is to introduce them to something new that they will no doubt fall in love with, whether it’s a new place to eat at or a cute new boutique to shop at. We want these families to come back, even for vacations, when they can spend even more time experiencing all Foley has to offer.”
The Battle of the Bay is open to the public and there will be a $5 admission charge. For more information on it or any FST event, check out our events page.
