Publix SuperCup, presented by Snap Soccer and Perdido Bay FC, returns to the Foley Sports Tourism (FST) fields this weekend as the boys take their turn to compete September 13 – 15.
Last week, Foley played host to around 140 teams for Publix SuperCup Girls Weekend. The boys are looking to top that number with 155 teams expected. Zack Touchstone, Tournament Director, said the teams range in age from U9 to U19 and are traveling from across the southeast, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, and Alabama.
Like the girls’ event, the boys’ tournament continues to grow each year. Touchstone explains that a number of factors contribute to that growth.
“The history, competition, location, facility, and the time of year are all reasons the SuperCup has become so popular. This event has been a staple in the soccer community over the last few years,” Touchstone said. “We are having to turn teams away from multiple age groups due to the growth.”
Touchstone said Snap Soccer and Perdido Bay FC are always looking for ways to improve the competition to keep teams coming back. This year, organizers will offer a showcase bracket to older teams, which guarantees at least three games with 40-minute halves.
FST Field Superintendent Rhett Brown said the experience is one the staff is always trying to improve upon as well.
“We want to give them amazing fields,” Brown said. “But we want to give them so much more than that. We are always looking for ways to share a true Foley experience with our visitors, no matter how many times they’ve been to our facility. We’ve got new signage and city information to make their experience great both on and off the field.”
The Publix SuperCup Boys Weekend is open to the public and there will be a $5 parking fee.
