Successful Playdate Kicks of Fall Full of Soccer

Foley Sports Tourism Complex kicked off a fall full of soccer last weekend with a Snap Soccer Playdate on Saturday.

A total of 94 teams from Mobile to Panama City came out to dust off the rust and start gelling with new teammates. The event brought about 1500 players and 4000 spectators to Foley for the day and many stuck around for dinner once the rain cut the event short a few hours early.

Snap Soccer Tournament Director John Guidroz said despite the weather, the event was a hit.

“The first playdate was a huge success,” Guidroz said. “The Foley Sports Tourism Complex did a great job getting the facility ready for some outstanding soccer.”

Soccer won’t be a stranger to FSTC this fall with the Alabama Soccer Association State Cup and the Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Championships on the docket. Interim Director of FSTC, David Thompson said the complex now has the sport down pat.

“We’ve been lucky enough to host some large soccer tournaments and it’s a sport that we see a lot of throughout the year,” Thompson said. “We’ve gotten rave reviews from event participants and tournament directors that keep them coming back to Foley.”

One tournament making its return to Foley for the second year in a row is the Publix Super Cup, put on in partnership with Snap Soccer. The Super Cup is so large it’s split into a girls weekend, scheduled for September 9-10 and a boys weekend scheduled for September 16- 17. Teams in a range of ages will head to Foley from around the Southeast.  There’s still time to register by going online.
