Soccer Playdate Focuses on Casual Competition

After braving a few weeks of chilly weather Foley Sports Tourism (FST) fields will be back in action this Saturday for a Snap Soccer Playdate. The one-day event will bring 60 teams from around the region in for some casual competition.

The Playdate, one of three Snap has scheduled throughout the region for the spring, will feature both boys and girls teams in divisions ranging from U9 to U15. Tournament Director Zack Touchstone said playdates are a chance for teams to get some experience without the pressure of a full tournament.

“The playdates advocate getting quality touches on the ball against competitive teams,” Touchstone said. “At the same time giving the kids an opportunity to play competitive games that are not in a tournament setting.”

The event will bring in economic impact to the city as teams fill up Foley restaurants and shops. But Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism David Thompson said the Playdate is really a chance for Foley to strengthen its relationship with Snap Soccer.

“Snap Soccer has been a strong partner from day one,” Thompson said. “They’ve brought in numerous tournaments that feature over 100 teams. Playdates are a chance for teams to come in and experience what Foley has to offer. It’s our chance to provide them with such a high-quality experience that they come back and play in those large future tournaments.”

The Playdate is open to spectators. Both admission and parking are free. For more information on this or and FST events, visit our events page.
