College soccer coaches from around the region will have the opportunity to scout talent this weekend at the Gulf States College Showcase, December 13 -14.
Tournament Director Zack Touchstone said the event is open to U13 through U19 age divisions but there will be two different formats.
“This is a showcase event for older kids looking to play soccer in college. U16 and up will play showcase format (40-minute halves and 3 games max). U13-U15 will play normal tournament format (4 games and 34-minute halves),” Touchstone explained. “This is one of the best ways to get seen by college coaches as well as experience high-level competition. For the younger teams attending, it’s a great experience to watch the older, more competitive matches. It’s an opportunity for players to get seen by college coaches. We have had many receive offers from last year’s event.”
The event is set to bring an estimated 25 women’s team coaches and 23 men’s team coaches from schools including the University of South Alabama, Auburn University at Montgomery, and the University of Louisiana- Lafayette.
Foley Sports Tourism Event Coordinator Chad Raybon said the event is not just an opportunity for the players.
“The Gulf States College Showcase gives us the chance to host a number of college coaches in Foley,” Raybon said. “These are coaches that may need to hold camps, offsite games, or other events. It allows us to show off our incredible facilities and all there is to do here.”
