The Southern Shootout will draw high school soccer teams from around the region February 10 – 12 to celebrate the start of the season.
Tournament Director Chad Harrelson is expecting more than 75 teams in girls and boys junior varsity and varsity divisions. He said the tournament allows teams to experience unique competition early in the year.
“This is an annual kick off tournament to high school soccer season that brings teams from all over the state of Alabama,” Harrelson said. “It allows our local teams to see how they match up with teams that they may not normally see from other areas of the state. It really sets the tone for the season and it can quickly show you how you stack up with the other elite programs.”
FST Event Operations Coordinator Chad Raybon said the event is exciting for the staff because it’s a preview of what’s to come.
“It’s almost like an exclusive sneak preview of the high school soccer season,” Raybon explained. “We get to see firsthand who the teams to beat will be this year. A lot can change throughout the course of a season but it all starts here.”
The Southern Shootout is scheduled to run Thursday evening and all day Friday and Saturday. There is a $5 charge for admission. For more information on this or any FST event visit our events page.
