The Perdido Soccer Shootout will celebrate a milestone this weekend, March 2-3, when it hosts the tenth annual tournament.
Tournament Director, Zack Touchstone, said the Shootout has become a premier spring event for Snap Soccer. The event has grown so large over its ten-year span, that Snap was forced to split it into two weekends: a boys weekend and a girls weekend. The girls will kick things off first with approximately 70 teams from around the nation scheduled to compete at Foley Sports Tourism (FST).
“We have teams coming from Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Illinois,” Touchstone said. “The fact that it’s an all-girl, high-quality event, the competition draws teams to attend. With a variety of clubs participating, teams encounter a range of unique styles of play.”
FST Grounds Supervisor, Rhett Brown, explained the Shootout is a mainstay on the calendar, and that the team works hard to raise the bar every year in making the facility shine.
“I’m a grass guy,” Brown said. “That’s what I know and love. I want to make sure that every year, no matter how many events come before or after the Shootout, they have a high-quality playing surface that they’ll remember and come back for.”
The Perdido Soccer Shootout Girls Weekend will kick off at approximately 8:30 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3. The public is encouraged to attend and there is a $5 charge for parking.
