Snap Soccer returns to the Foley Sports Tourism (FST) fields for two Playdates on August 17 and 24.
Snap Soccer Operations Manager, Zack Touchstone, expects approximately 90 teams from Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana to participate. Teams will include both boys and girls teams ranging in age from U8 to U15.
Playdates are a bit different from a full tournament in that games are more casual and score is not kept. Touchstone explained that the format allows teams flexibility in a stress-free environment.
“The reason we try to hold two dates in August is for teams to prepare for upcoming tournament season,” Touchstone said. “It allows teams the opportunity to play games that aren’t as competitive and try new formation.”
With the Publix SuperCup coming up in September, the tournament season gets competitive quickly. It’s also a chance for the FST staff to prepare for a soccer-heavy fall.
“We’ve been working very hard to keep our facility in tip-top shape,” said FST Field Superintendent Rhett Brown. “The Playdates are a chance for us to switch gears into event mode, while showing off our incredible facility.”
The Playdates are free and open to the public. Touchstone encourages people to come and check them out.
“We would love for those in the community to come out and watch,” Touchstone said. “There will be anywhere from 10-16 fields running at once. 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11 games will be played throughout the day.”
