Pickleball Tournament Sets Record For Foley

The USA Pickleball Atlantic South Regional Championship is returning to the Foley Event Center May 6 – 9 and it will be the largest pickleball event ever held by Foley Sports Tourism.

Winners of this tournament will be given access to early register for the National Championship held in California in November. Tournament Director Walt Hooker said more than 400 players from 23 states are expected to compete in mixed doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s singles and men’s doubles.

The tournament was held in Foley in 2019 and was canceled in 2020 due to the COVD-19 pandemic.   This year’s registration numbers over those from 2019 and Hooker said it is partially due to the venue.

“The staff and community are awesome hosts and a pleasure to work with. We like the indoor venue because there are no rain delays or cancellations,” Hooker said. “At the Foley Event Center, we can handle about 240 matches in a 12-hour day with 18 pickleball courts (about one match per hour per court.)”

FST Event Operations Manager Angie Sullivan said everyone is ready to welcome players back to Foley.

“It’s going to be a huge weekend in our area with more than one hundred soccer teams playing on our fields and the Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival going on next door at OWA,” Sullivan said. “Our goal is to make sure all of our pickleball competitors enjoy their time not only playing at the Foley Event Center but experiencing all the city has to offer. That means we’ve adjusted traffic patterns and thought through protocols to keep the event moving but enjoyable for everyone involved.”

The USA Pickleball Atlatic South Regional Championship will be running all day May 6 -9. For more information on this or any FST event visit our events page.
