It’s that time of year, Foley and the surrounding area sees an influx of visitors trying to escape the chilly northern weather. The Bama Beach Pickleball Club is holding their annual tournament and decided to change the name to honor those visitors. The Bama Beach Snowbird Classic will be held at the Foley Event Center February 16 to 18.
Tournament Director Eddie McDonald said the event will feature a day for men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. They are expecting 150 competitors from around the Southeast. And while this tournament is focused on fun, they will make sure it will never come at the expense of safety, McDonald promised.
“Temperatures will be taken upon entering the facility,” McDonald said. “All players and spectators will be required to wear masks and social distance when not playing. Hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the facility.”
Foley Event Center Building Supervisor Jeff Ryan said the staff always looks forward to having pickleball in the building.
“It’s safe to say Eddie is one of our favorite event planners to work with,” Ryan laughed. “These are competitors who love to play but they also make sure to have fun doing it. I think that sometimes gets lost in sports nowadays. It’s a game, you’re supposed to have fun.”
The Bama Beach Snowbird Classic kicks off at 8 a.m. each day. For more information on this or any Foley Sports Tourism event visit our events page.
