Move over basketball, in Foley, March is all about volleyball. The Foley Event Center kicks off the month with the March Madness Volleyball Tournament running February 29 to March 1.
Tournament director Patsy Burke said this will be the 19th year they’ve held the tournament and each year it’s grown. This year they are expecting 90 teams from around the region including Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Burke said the way the tournament is scheduled sets it apart from other competitions.
“This tournament is considered one day for specific age groups,” Burke explained. “It’s 12 to 14 year olds on Saturday; 15 to 18 year olds on Sunday with Boys and Grassroots on Sunday afternoon.”
The boys division is something new they added to the tournament this year and the Foley Sports Tourism (FST) staff is excited said FST Event Operations Coordinator Chad Raybon.
“We are lucky to host a lot of volleyball in Foley,” Raybon said. “We love the opportunity to help planners make each event stand out and be unique. It’s our goal in Foley to get these players to back and visit. With March Madness we have the opportunity to share our community with a whole new set of competitors and make it a tournament they put on their calendar for next year.”
The March Madness volleyball tournament begins at 8 a.m. on both February 29 and March 1. It’s open to the public and there is a $5 charge for admission. For more information on this or any FST event visit our events page.
