Lacrosse Switches Up the Program

After over a month of soccer events, Foley Sports Tourism Complex is turning to a different sport this weekend: Lacrosse. The Complex is hosting the Jubilee Jam April 29-30.

The event is the spring season championship tournament for the Gulf Coast Lacrosse Conference (GCLC), brought to Foley by the local club, Lower Alabama Lacrosse. The tournament will feature all of the GCLC divisions including girls, U8, U10, U12 and U14.

The Jubilee Jam will bring the growing sport of lacrosse back to FSTC.

Lower Alabama Lacrosse is just an example of how the sport of lacrosse has grown in the region. What began eight years ago as 20 kids and two teams, has grown to over 100 players and is completely volunteer run. Amy Bartimus, who does communications, social media and web administration for the group, said having the Jubilee Jam at FSTC helps bring a sense of celebration and vacation to the championships.

“We thought what venue could be better for our Championship Tournament than to host it at the brand-new Foley Sports Tourism Complex,” Bartimus said. “This is the perfect location for all the teams to come together and be just minutes from the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast, shopping at Tanger Outlet, fabulous dining, and numerous hotels.”

Thought the tournament will be relatively small for a complex that hosted more than 100 teams just the weekend before, Executive Director Don Staley said investing in lacrosse will pay dividends for the city in the future.

“Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the nation and Foley Sports Tourism wants to be on the cutting edge,” Staley said. “We want to show that we are the perfect venue for just about any sport.”

The Jubilee Jam kicks off on April 29 at 8 a.m. For more information on this or any of our events, visit our events page.
