Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer which means volleyball comes off the beach and back to the Foley Event Center. The Labor Day Classic will kick off the holiday weekend, running August 31 through September 1.
Tournament Director, Shawn Weaver said this will be the first high school volleyball tournament of the season in this area. Foley High School is the host of the event, welcoming high school and middle school teams from around the state including Montgomery, Birmingham, Mobile, and Tuscaloosa.
Weaver hopes the Labor Day Classic will become an annual event and knows that visiting teams will fall in love with Foley and want to return.
“The City of Foley and the Foley Event Center offer everything a volleyball team and their families are looking for when traveling for a tournament,” Weaver said. “A variety of restaurants, affordable lodging, shopping, and team/family entertainment when not playing volleyball.”
Foley Sports Tourism Events Coordinator, Luke Persall, said volleyball has found a home at the event center and the future looks bright with larger events on the horizon.
“We love hosting volleyball events,” Persall said. “We’ve hosted eight tournaments since our facility opened in the fall of last year and we have another ten on the books for 2019. We understand the needs of the sport and look forward to further building our relationships with such organized and dedicated tournament directors.”
The public is invited to check out the Labor Day Classic. Admission is $6 a day. For more information on this or any Foley Sports Tourism event check out our events page.
