Invitational Combines Competition & Recruitment

The Lower Alabama Volleyball Club will be hosting their annual LAV Invitational tournament January 21 – 22 at the Foley Event Center. Back again this year is the college recruiting camp the night of January 20 and is open to all those competing in the tournament.

Kate Wood, Tournament Director, said the event continues to grow with 100 teams from around the USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region expected to attend. Wood said that it’s their eighth consecutive year holding the event and this year they were forced to close registration early because so many teams wanted to compete.

Part of their success is the addition of the Friday night college recruiting camp. Wood said nine coaches will be in attendance this year and will spend two and a half hours running drills with players before a 30-minute question and answer period about recruiting at the end of the evening.

“This camp give athletes in our southeast area an easy way to connect with schools around the southeast,” Wood explained. “Division II, III, JUCO, and NAIA will be represented at the event.”

Foley Sports Tourism Event Operations Manager Angie Sullivan said the event is something that fits very strongly with the FST mission.

“We are always looking to work closely with groups like Lower Alabama Volleyball to not only grow their events but instill a love of sports in our visitors. This helps them create memorable experiences of their time in Foley that will keep them returning year after year,” Sullivan said. “By helping players see a future for themselves in volleyball we can keep them engaged and wanting to come back to experience Foley again and again.”

The Lower Alabama Invitational runs all day January 21 -22 and the Friday night recruiting camp kicks off at 5 p.m. For more on this or any FST event visit our events page.
