Indoor Soccer Hits Foley for the First Time

Foley Sports Tourism (FST) and Snap Soccer are undertaking something new to both of them this weekend in the Southeast Winter Indoor Soccer Games. The indoor soccer tournament will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 27.

Tournament Director, Zack Touchstone, said the event will differ from the usual outdoor soccer competitions Snap has held on the FST fields. Indoor soccer features smaller-sided games creating a faster pace. This realm of soccer is new to Snap, but Touchstone said indoor soccer is something they hope to make a regular feature in their tournament schedule and that Foley is the perfect place to do it.

“This is an introduction of indoor to the area. We plan to do several indoor events a year once it gains some steam,” Touchstone said. “Foley has the best facility around and is the perfect geographical location.”

With 30 teams from boys and girls divisions ranging in age from U8 – U16, the event is bringing a number of different people through the doors of the Foley Event Center. Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism, David Thompson said the benefits of this event are twofold- introducing new things to the area and underscoring the organization’s relationship to soccer.

“This event is a perfect fit for Foley,” Thompson said. “We not only get a chance to introduce something new to our community, we also are finding a way to continue to grow our soccer opportunities. More teens in the U.S. are playing soccer than ever before and indoor is not as reliant on the weather as outdoor.”

The Southeast Winter Indoor Soccer Games are open to the public. Parking and admission are free. For more information on this or any FST events visit our events page.
