Hall of Fame Opens Volleyball Season

The 11th Annual Hall of Fame Classic Volleyball Tournament is the first formal volleyball tournament of the year and it’s got people excited.

USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region Commissioner Philip Bryant said everyone is looking forward to a fresh start.

“The Hall of Fame is the Gulf Coast Region’s first tournament each club season,” Bryant explained. “There’s lots of renewed excitement for the 2021 season.”

That excitement is drawing 88 teams from Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama to the Foley Event Center. But Bryant said there will be special COVID protocols in place to keep everyone safe, including limiting spectators and following all CDC, federal, state, and local guidelines.

Foley Sports Tourism Event Operations Manager Angie Sullivan said the staff is also ready to welcome volleyball back.

“2020 taught us a lot,” Sullivan said. “Now we are taking everything we learned into a new beginning. We have a number of volleyball events on the calendar in the coming months and we are looking forward to finding a rhythm that brings the excitement of live sports back at every possible opportunity while continuing to keep safety as the top priority.”

The Hall of Fame Classic is scheduled to run all day both January 9 and 10. Spectators are limited and there is a $5 charge for admission.
