Hall of Fame Classic Looks to Grow Volleyball

For the next four months, volleyball will take over the Foley Event Center with 10 tournaments scheduled to take place. The 9th Annual Hall of Fame Classic will kick things off January 11 – 13.

The tournament director, Janie Wiggins, said more than 70 teams registered to compete. With a large number of teams planning to attend, the hope is the Hall of Fame Classic will continue to grow volleyball in the region.

“This tournament is co-hosted by Deep South and the (USA Volleyball) Gulf Coast Region who have worked collectively together to provide the best opportunity to grow the interest of volleyball,” said Wiggins. “This tournament will feature all age groups, including grassroots up to 18’s.  In addition to covering multiple age groups, we are excited to add a boys division as well. On Friday, Jan. 11th, the tournament will feature Melissa Wolter, from [the University of West Florida] in a coaching clinic made available to all participating teams.”

Foley Sports Tourism (FST) hosted the Classic last year as well as 11 volleyball tournaments. FST Event Operations Coordinator Luke Persall said the key is to not get stagnant.

“We’ve come to understand volleyball and how it runs,” said Persall. “But no two tournaments are the same. We have new visitors coming to each event and we know that’s our opportunity as a city to put our best foot forward. We want these people to fall in love with Foley and keep them coming back, not just for sports but for vacation as well.”

The 9th Annual Hall of Fame Classic is open to the public. There will be a $5 charge for admission. For more information on this tournament or any FST event visit our events page.
