Gulf Coast Invitational To Draw 150+ Teams

The Foley Sports Tourism Complex is continuing on its soccer kick (enjoy the pun!), April 21-23. The 34th Annual Gulf Coast Invitational is coming to town and expecting to bring more than 150 teams.

The Gulf Coast Invitation is a soccer tournament hosted by the Bayside Dynamo each year and has continued to grow, said tournament director, Ryan Morgan.

The 2017 Gulf Coast Invitational is slated to draw over 150 teams.

“Last year’s event was tremendous, and building upon our previous success,” Morgan said. “This year our staff is scheduling more soccer activities during the weekend.”

Economic Impact

The event is open to U9-U19 boys and girls travel soccer teams. According to Foley Sports Tourism Complex Executive Director, Don Staley, these teams can have quite the economic impact on the City of Foley.

“When you look at travel soccer it’s more than just players and coaches,” Staley said. “We are talking about whole families coming out to cheer on the kids and then spending the night in our community. That’s thousands of people coming in to play, stay, dine and shop in Foley.”

The competition kicks off at 8 a.m. on April 21. Those looking for more information on this or any of the Foley Sports Tourism Complex events click here.
