Gulf Coast Classic Draws Record Numbers

The 29th Annual Gulf Coast Classic will draw a record number of club volleyball teams to the Foley Event Center and satellite facilities February 19 – 20.

Tournament Director Shawn Weaver said in the close to 30 years of hosting event this will be largest they’ve ever had. Weaver said they are expecting 160 teams from across the USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region in age divisions ranging from 10u-18u. Weaver said part of the popularity is due to the marriage of great competition with tons of fun off the court.

“The Gulf Coast Classic offers both American and Club Levels so that teams are matched well and they want to compete here,” Weaver said. “Add to that Foley’s hospitality, excellent facilities, great hotels, restaurants, and fun for families when not playing and it offer a great all-around experience.”

Foley Sports Tourism Event Operations Coordinator Chad Raybon said the Gulf Coast Classic is an event that is highlighted on the calendar every year.

“It’s one of our largest volleyball tournaments of the season,” Raybon said. “Each year we know it will grow so we know we have to grow with it. Our staff is constantly looking for new protocols and technologies that allow us to always be at the top of our game, no matter how many teams are in town.”

The Gulf Coast Classic runs all day starting at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. There is a $5 charge from admission for those 12 and older. For more information about this or any FST event visit our events page.
