Snap Soccer returns to Foley March 3 – 4 for the Perdido Soccer Shootout Girls Weekend.
The competition should be fierce according to tournament director Zack Touchstone. With about 80 teams registered in divisions ranging from U9 to U18 there will be a lot of action. Teams are expected to travel from as far as Illinois.
“It’s our spring flagship tournament,” he said. “Over two weekends, we will bring about 200 teams to the Gulf Coast.”
With a large number of expected to visit the area, Snap Soccer decided to split the competition into a girls weekend, this weekend March 3-4 and a boys weekend slated for March 10 – 11.
Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism David Thompson said like Snap’s Publix Cup in the fall, the tournaments are events that the city enjoys hosting.
“We’ve really built a reputation on the soccer side because we enjoy it,” Thompson said. “It’s one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. and events like the Perdido Soccer Shootout give a chance to bring competition to the area that regional teams might not otherwise see. We want to give every team a memorable experience and keep them coming back to our area for years to come. Snap has been a valuable partner to us from day one.”
The Perdido Soccer Shootout will kick off around 8:30 Saturday morning and the public is invited to check it out. There will be a $5 charge for parking.
