Girls Kick Off Publix SuperCup

There is no stopping Snap Soccer’s marquee fall event, the Publix SuperCup which is back for its fourth year. Despite the rain and city closing’s this week, the girls take to the Foley Sports Tourism (FST) fields September 8 – 9.

The Publix SuperCup is one of the largest events Snap Soccer hosts. Due to increased participation organizers were forced to split the event into a boys weekend and a girls weekend to accommodate all the teams. The tournament is still growing, with 130 teams expected for girls weekend, up 30 teams from last year.

Tournament director, Nick Cooper, said with the continued growth it just makes sense to hold the event in Foley.

“It’s easily one of the best facilities in the region,” Cooper said. “The service we receive as Snap Soccer from all of the staff at FST is second to none. It makes complete sense for us to continue to work hand in hand to grow soccer in this area.”

FST Field Superintendent Rhett Brown said the relationship with Snap Soccer is highly valued.

“We enjoy working with Snap Soccer,” Brown said. “We’ve developed a strong partnership. We know their staff and they know ours. It’s become second nature for us all to work together to put on great tournaments, no matter how large they get.”

The Publix SuperCup will be open to the public and Cooper encourages people to check out the action. Age divisions range from U9 to U19 with multiple state champions from several states making the trip.

The tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. each day. There is a $5 charge for parking.
