Futsal Aims To Keep Kids Cool

The Snap Soccer Southern 5v5 Challenge will be heading to the Foley Sports Tourism FST Fields July 24th. They’ve structured the event to make sure participants stay cool while still enjoying the speed of the sport in the beautiful outdoors.

Tournament Director Zack Touchstone said they are expecting teams from Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi to compete in age divisions ranging from U-9 to U16. Touchstone explained that regardless of age it’s important to make sure players don’t overdo it in the Gulf Coast heat. The plan is to schedule the bulk of games in the late afternoon and evening to avoid hotter times of day. This means teams get a chance to play under the lights for a full competition experience.

Touchstone said Snap Soccer has had success taking futsal outdoors but intend on taking the event back indoors next summer. But indoor or out, the speed of the game really gives players the chance to hone their soccer skills.

“The gameplay really focuses on foot skills which everyone can benefit from,” Touchstone explained. “Especially with club season gearing up.”

FST Grounds Supervisor Rhett Brown said the staff is looking forward to the fun the event always brings.

“We love working with Snap on new ideas for events,” Brown said. “Bringing futsal outside has always been exciting to work on. We can’t wait to see what they come up with next.”

The Snap Soccer Southern 5v5 Challenge will kick off Saturday July 24. There is a $5 entry fee for spectators. For more information on this or any FST tournament visit our events page.
