Foley Sports Tourism (FST) is welcoming the return of ultimate frisbee to its fields with the USA Ultimate Southeast College Regional, April 27 – 28.
The tournament will feature college teams from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, all vying for a shot at the national championship. Division I men’s and women’s teams, as well as Division III men’s teams, will compete for a trip to Round Rock, Texas, May 24 – 27.
The Southeast College Region is split into three conferences in which teams have to finish high to keep their dreams alive. The participating teams had to win to be invited to Foley, and their future opportunities will be dictated by their success this weekend.
Tournament Director, Tabitha Mixon, explained the sport of ultimate Frisbee continues to grow, and encourages the public to come check out the action.
“Ultimate is a very fast paced and exciting game for all spectators,” Mixon said. “It is very similar to games of soccer in pace/movement.”
FST Field Supervisor, Rhett Brown, said after a soccer-heavy spring, ultimate will be a welcome challenge.
“It’s been almost a year since we’ve hosted ultimate at our complex and it’s something we’re looking forward to,” Brown said. “We love the challenge of turning our fields from one sport to another and really working this state-of-the-art facility to its max potential.”
The USA Ultimate Southeast College Regional is free and open to the public. It will kick off at 9 a.m. April 27 – 28. To learn more about the tournament or any FST event check out our events page.
