Foley Preps for the Ultimate Weekend

College students from all over the southeast are headed to Foley Sports Tourism Complex this weekend for the USA Ultimate Southeast College Regionals.

The top ultimate frisbee teams will be battling it out for a chance to make the USA Ultimate’s College National Championship. The contest will run across NCAA divisional lines with bids available in a range of categories including Division I Men’s, Division I Women’s, and Division III Men’s.

The southeast region includes Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Regional Director, Andrew Francis, said the region is one of the strongest in the nation, with teams like Georgia College, who captured the Division III Men’s National Title in 2016.

Francis said he’s excited to see the growing sport pair with Foley’s growing complex.

“We are very excited to be bringing the premier southeast college tournament to Foley’s brand-new complex this year,” Francis said. “We struggle to find complexes big enough with quality fields and amenities that this event deserves, but FST has built an amazing complex in a location that everyone will love. We hope this year’s tournament is the first of many over the next few years.”

This isn’t the first time the Foley Sports Tourism Complex has hosted ultimate frisbee, but this event does have more on the line for participants than any held in the past. Executive Director, Don Staley said he hopes to see more ultimate on Foley fields, perhaps with even greater importance.

“This event is a milestone for our relationship with ultimate frisbee,” Staley said. “The way we’ve been able to handle smaller tournaments in the past has earned us the chance to host the College Regional. We hope we can continue to prove ourselves and grow our ultimate events to a national scale.”

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 6 and is open to the public. For more information on this or any of our events, check out our calendar.
