Disc Golf Returns to Foley

Disc golf is flying back into Foley! The third annual Mid-Summer Meltdown No. 3 disc golf tournament, sponsored by Latitude 64, is scheduled for Saturday, July 21 at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.

The PDGA sanctioned tournament will hold two rounds of singles competition. The event is open to all ages and different divisions will place competitors in similar skill levels. All amateurs who sign up will receive three custom stamped discs, a mini marker, an event shirt and a Latitude 64 shirt for their $45 entry fee. Trophy discs will be given for first, second and third place in all divisions.

Tim Closson, tournament director, said the first year there were only 63 competitors. The numbers grew the second year, but he is hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.

“The Meltdown is special to me because it was my first PDGA event as a Tournament Director,” Closson said. “Graham Creek is my home course, and we love to show off how great the park and the courses are every day.”

Foley Sports Tourism Deputy Director, Don Dukemineer, is happy to see the continued growth and development of disc golf within the community because it garners invaluable exposure for Graham Creek.

“We are excited to welcome the competitors to Foley for the Mid-Summer Meltdown No. 3 disc golf tournament,” Dukemineer said. “The beautiful 500-acre Graham Creek Nature Preserve will provide an unbelievable atmosphere for the tournament, and the courses will offer the competitors a unique and challenging experience.”

The Mid-Summer Meltdown No. 3 will be open to the public. There will be a food truck at the park for a close lunch option. For more information on this tournament, visit our events page.
