Cornhole Returns to Foley

It’s going to be a fun couple of days at the Foley Event Center as the American Cornhole Organization (ACO) returns for the third year in a row. The ACO Foley Major is slated to run February 9 through 10.

Fun is the name of the game with cornhole, said Frank Geers, President and CEO of the ACO.

“Cornhole’s inclusivity is what sets it apart from other sports,” Geers said. “Anyone and everyone can compete, and that creates a community we believe is special.”

It’s not just true for cornhole overall, but for this week as well, everyone can participate in the ACO Foley Major. Divisions include juniors, women, seniors, singles, and doubles. Each competition lets ACO players earn points to qualify for the ACO World Championships of Cornhole.

Foley Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism David Thompson said this is an event the city and staff look forward each year.

“The ACO brings in people who enjoy themselves and all the city has to offer,” Thompson said. “At times it’s almost like seeing a family reunion, as they come together, compete, and catch up. This atmosphere carries itself into Foley restaurants and entertainment establishments.”

Geers agreed, Foley is a place that their participants like to come back to year after year.
“Foley is a town with a lot happening that our players love to be at,” Geers said. “It is in a spot geographically that a lot of our players can make it out to.”

Those looking to join the ACO family can still register for the ACO Foley Major by visiting the organization’s website. Anyone just wanting to check out the event is more than welcome, admission and parking are free.
