College Archery Draws From Around the Nation

Graham Creek Nature Preserve is quickly becoming a top-tier destination for archery as they welcome their third tournament of the year with the USA Archery National 3D Collegiate Championships October 15 -17.

While the Championships have been held in Foley before this year will be a little different with the COVID-19 protocols that are in place. These include non-contact temperature checks, mandatory mask-wearing unless actively competing, and social distancing.

Tournament Director, Mike Tyrell said they are expecting more than 250 participants from colleges around the nation to compete in four competition classes and equipment: open compound, fixed pin compound, barebow recurve, and Olympic recurve.

Tyrell said the decision to return to Foley for the event was a no-brainer.

“Foley Sports Tourism and Graham Creek Nature Preserve have the most professional and supportive staff of any event site we visit every year,” Tyrell said. “Why not go with the best?”

Foley Environmental Manager Leslie Gahagan said the staff is looking forward to welcoming back archers.

“It’s been a tough couple of weeks dealing with storms,” Gahagan said. “It will be really nice to feel like we are getting back to normal by welcoming our archery family back to town.”

Spectators are welcome at the event as long as they adhere to all COVID-19 protocols. For more information on this or any Foley Sports Tourism event visit our events page.
