The second wave of soccer since the reopening of Foley Sports Tourism’s FST Fields is set to hit this weekend with the Big Wave Soccer Tournament June 27 – 28.
Big Wave is a collaboration between Snap Soccer and Gulf Breeze Futbol Academy. The tournament, originally scheduled for May 9 – 10, was rescheduled due to the COVID- 19 pandemic. Snap Soccer’s Zack Touchstone said the format will remain the same. The biggest change is the new sideline policies that were put in place in order to keep everyone safe.
“We are limiting the teams that register and staggering start times,” Touchstone said. “Also, we are encouraging teams not to hand out at the fields if they’re not playing.”
Event Operations Supervisor Angela Sullivan said by encouraging the teams not to hang around, there will be more people out in the community experiencing all that Foley has to offer.
“We are expecting about 70 teams from across the Southeast,” Sullivan said. “By limiting time at the fields we’re not only keeping people safe, but we’re also fulfilling our mission to bring economically impactful events to our city, even during this unprecedented time.”
The Big Wave Classic will all day June 27 – 28. It is open to the public but social distancing and other safety practices will be enforced. There is a $5 charge for parking. For more information on this tournament or any FST event check out our events page.
