Basketball will be bouncing back into the Foley Event Center, July 13 – 15, for the Big South National Showcase.
Tournament Director Richard Robinson said they are expecting 70 boys and girls teams to attend the event. The ages range from fourth grade to 12th grade, with most teams being concentrated in the high school age group.
Interest and participation have been sparked in numerous high school athletes and teams due to the anticipated number of college coaches from National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division II and II schools, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schools, and junior colleges attending.
“What makes this tournament special is that it’s an exposure event for college coaches,” Robinson said. “It helps potential players get to the next level.”
The Foley Event Center’s flexibility, in having six courts under one roof, will provide college coaches with an opportunity to watch several potential student athletes in one trip. Foley Sports Tourism Deputy Director, Don Dukemineer said the building’s unique amenities are helping the city grow its relationship with basketball tournaments.
“We continue to see the interest in basketball grow amongst youth and travel teams due to the excitement with college and professional basketball,” Dukemineer said. “We want to build upon the relationship we have with tournament organizers, and hopefully attract additional events that showcase our facility and bring visitors to Foley.”
The Big South National Showcase will be open to the public. Parking is free but there will be a nominal admission fee. For more information on this tournament or any Foley Sports Tourism event check out our events page.
