Foley Sports Tourism (FST) will be celebrating the holiday weekend with basketball as the Stars & Stripes Memorial Classic takes over the Foley Event Center May 28 – 30.
Tournament Director Richard Robinson said this will be the eighth year they’ve held the tournament and it’s continued to grow, despite having to delay it last year due to the COVID pandemic. They are expecting more than 100 boys and girls teams ranging in age divisions from 5th grade through 12th grade. Robinson said the tournament continues to draw because it marries top-tier competition with top-notch facilities.
“It’s a very organized tournament with some of the top teams in the Southeast,” Robinson said. “It’s great to host at the Foley Event Center because it has OWA next door along with Tanger Outlets nearby and many other attractions.”
The FST staff is looking forward to having basketball back on track as well.
“Last year this event got delayed and it threw us a bit,” said Foley Event Center Building Supervisor Jeff Ryan. “For us, Memorial Day means basketball with Coach Robinson. It’s something we look forward to. Last year felt off, like it did for so many during the pandemic. We are glad that we can get back on track and celebrate the holiday with Coach again.”
The Stars & Stripes Memorial Classic will run Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. For more information on this or any FST event visit our events page.
