2018 Storm Invitational is Brewing in Foley

Word is getting around that Foley Event Center is the place for volleyball. This weekend’s 2018 Storm Invitational already has more teams registered than any volleyball event in the facility’s history.

Tournament Director Shawn Weaver said the Invitational is something that will draw participants because of the high level of competition and the chance of being scouted by college recruiters. The tournament will feature girls teams in a range of age divisions from grassroots all the way up to 18-year-olds.

Weaver also said that Foley is the perfect place for them to host the event.

“Foley has spectacular accommodations with a variety of restaurants and a state-of-the-art sports facility,” Weaver said.

Participation numbers have continued to grow with each volleyball tournament in the Foley Event Center and don’t show any signs of slowing down, said Foley’s Director of Recreation and Sports Tourism, David Thompson.

“This is exactly what we’ve been working toward,” Thompson said. “We strive to offer the highest quality of customer service to each person who walks through our doors. We know that first impression can make or break our reputation. While the growth is encouraging, we don’t plan on resting on our laurels. We hope to continue to not only grow volleyball but all our events.”

The 2018 Storm Invitational is open to the public. There is a $5 admission charge for those looking to check it out.
